Pikey Bream

pikey-breamPikey bream school-up in very large numbers in estuaries around the coast in the cooler months of the dry season. For the rest of the year, they inhabit shallow tidal creeks where they are occasionally caught on lures.

They are a family fishing favourite and taste every bit as good as their southern cousins.

Other Names: Acanthopagrus berda. Black bream, bream
Location: Estuaries and river entrances (although they will often move far up above the tidal influence) all round the coast.
Season: Cooler months of the dry season (June to August).
Method: Light threadline and baitcasting outfits. Prawns are definitely the best bait.
Regulations: For up-to-date regulations, check out the Northern Territory Department of Primary Industry and Fisheries
